To help you along your way, you can unlock different types of pets to take with you into battle. These pets run along beside you, blasting foes in your path and helping you on your way to victory. Each pet can be upgraded using special materials and have their own range of skills to equip.
Armour and weapon upgrades are also very similar to other action RPGs. You can sacrifice other pieces of equipment to make another piece stronger at a price, or use special stones to enhance them. Equipment have levels that can be increased which will increase the pieces’ stats making them that much more powerful in the field.
Along with pieces of equipment being upgraded comes the ‘Might’ system. Might acts like your gear score. The higher the level of your equipment, the better your Might is. This lets you see if you’re strong enough to face certain challenges and also gives other players an idea of how well you’d fare in a group dungeon with them.
You can also test your might against other players by participating in PvP battles which are fought in real-time.
Wait, Did You Say Group Dungeons?
Which brings us to the fact that you can participate in group dungeons. This is quite a nifty addition to TP as it lets you feel as if you’re playing an MMO, the reason being that you are playing with others in real time. Group dungeons present your team with much more formidable enemies and bosses but also provide you with better loot from the kills. You can also form guilds with your friends and participate in guild vs guild war modes.
When you’re not battling your way through dungeons, which are available for you to run at the cost of ‘constitution’ (a stamina like currency that regenerates over time) or ‘fortitude’ for PvP matches, you can hang around the hub with other players. Yet another feature that lets you feel like you’re actually in an MMO rather than a mobile game.
Now, the bits that really bug me about games like these are the ‘stamina’ systems to play levels. I understand that the game is F2P, therefore the developers need to earn a pretty penny here and there, but please abolish the stamina systems altogether. I’m sure F2P game developers earn enough money through in-app-purchases alone. And trust me, there are plenty of them in TP which unfortunately can sometimes make the game feel like a pay-to-win game.
Final Thoughts
Apart from the non-free aspects of TP, I feel that the game has set a benchmark for all other action RPGs to meet. The initial loading times don’t take too long and the freedom of who you want to play really makes for a long-lasting, pleasing experience. The graphics are easy on the eye and the sound effects/music don’t grate on your eardrums.
If you’re looking for the next game to pull you in and not let you go, then go ahead and download Taichi Panda for iOS or Android by clicking the links at the top of this page. See you in the game!
