I can be quite stubborn when it comes to adverts being shoved into my eye sockets. As everyone knows with free to play games, there are more often than not quite a lot of adverts popping up when you don’t want them to. Ads to generate in-game currencies, ads to replenish your stamina, ads for the sake of ads! Royal Revolt 2 was a game that came around rather frequently whilst trying to earn some free stuff in another game. As I said before, I can be quite stubborn so never bothered giving it a chance. If only I got off my high horse and downloaded it sooner! What a completely enthralling game with so much to offer! The battles call for strategic planning, the multitude of troops you can purchase and upgrade keep you dedicated to raiding player after player, and the ‘stamina’ system seems to be more than fair.
Straying Away From The Usual Formula
With most tower defence games, you are given a set map in which you are required to set up defencive structures in order to push back an invading force populated by a pre-determined army of goons.
Royal Revolt 2 takes you into the action yourself. You are in control of a cute little king armed to the teeth with whatever nasty weapons and armour you can buy, earn or find. As king, you have your own kingdom to build and defend. In order to earn the funds to safe-guard your dominion, you will need to raid other player’s kingdoms and plunder their gold.
You control your king by tapping where you’d like him to run to and also by tapping what you’d like him to attack. He will attack automatically at anything that is within range as well so you don’t need to spam tap the screen.
To prepare for your raids you will need to choose what minions you are going to have accompany you in battle. Without spending premium currency, you can choose a total of two different troops to spawn during your mission. These minions can be spawned by using an energy source called ‘morale’. Morale accumulates slowly over time and fills up slots in a bar. Depending on what troop you want to spawn, you may need to have a total of one up to sixteen slots filled in your morale bar.
Minions will generally be spawned at the beginning of a level and will run through it to catch up to you or stop to destroy structures or engage with enemy troops.
That’s a lot of arse kicking going on right there.
Did I mention this king can also wield magic? No? Well he can! Again, without spending premium currency you can allocate a total of two different spells to utilise whilst navigating through an opponent’s defences.
Spells do not consume any kind of resource but are on cooldowns after they’ve been used. As soon as that cooldown is up, you may cast the spell again straight away.
The aim of a raid is to destroy your opponents castle gate without dying and within a set time limit in order to retrieve whatever riches lie beyond in their treasury.
After successfully raiding a castle you will also be presented with six treasure chests to tap on. Only three of them have goodies and the other three contain skulls that will immediately end the game of chance.
